Solar-Thermal Hot Water Program

Anza Electric Cooperative, Inc. is pleased to announce the inauguration of a program designed to help our members save money on their energy bills.

The Solar Water Heating program is offered in cooperation with WePOWER LLC, an industry leader in innovative solar thermal solutions.

Solar water heating is one of the most cost effective methods of tapping into the potential energy we receive from the sun on a daily basis. The average family of 4 can see their water heating costs reduced by up to 80% annually. The savings can amount to over $500 per year.

This program is designed as a lease, with free installation and low monthly payments. To make the process even easier, the lease payments are simply added on to a member’s regular monthly electric bill. There is no cost to non-participating members. Individual eligibility is subject to credit history.

WePOWER representatives will be at our 57th Annual Membership Meeting on July 23rd, 2011 to answer your questions and present a detailed explanation of the lease program. As an extra added incentive, the first 100 members to sign up for a solar water heating system will receive a free $25 VISA gift card.

For more information please contact WePOWER at 888-791-9920, www.wepower.us/anza or email anza@wepower.us

Need Someone to Transact Business On Your Account?

AEC often receives inquiries from individuals wanting to transact business on an account that is not their own. Because the cooperative does not give out information on members accounts, if you want to authorize someone to transact business on your behalf, you need to submit something in writing. To assist with this, a form is available. If an individual contacts AEC and want to make a payment to someone’s account, only minimal information will be required, such as the account name and/or address. That person will need to provide the payment amount, as AEC will not disclose any balance due.

In many cases, only one name is listed on the account. This means only the account holder is allowed to transact business or vote at the annual meeting. If you want to make the account a joint account by adding a second name, a conversion form can be completed. If a second name is added, both individuals are equally responsible for the account, entitled to capital credits and either one can vote at the annual meeting. The transaction and conversion forms are available here on our website for you to complete. Once received by our office, the proper notes or second name will be made to the account.

Net Metering Policy Available

To encourage small electrical customers to install environmentally friendly sources of electrical power, the State of California has passed laws to make the process of interconnecting solar, wind, biogas, fuel cell, or hybrid powered generation system with a total installed capacity of one (1) megawatt (1000 kilowatts) or less as simple and economical as possible.

The current legislation also provides for "Eligible Customer-Generators" to receive the additional benefits provided by a billing process referred to as Net Energy Metering.

The Best Kind of Mail: A Check

Capital credits to be returned to co-op members in August

Rural electric cooperatives such as Anza Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AEC) are different from investor owned utilities (IOUs), whose primary objective is to make a profit. A rural electric cooperative is a non-profit business that exists solely to provide its members with electricity.

Non-profit electric cooperatives such as AEC deliver energy to their members at the cost of service. Investor owned utilities typically distribute their profits to investors across the nation or even the world - not necessarily to those they serve.

Capital credits come from the money the cooperative has left over after paying all of its expenses in a given year. At the end of the year, that money is credited to each member’s capital credit account according to the amount of electricity the member purchased. A member with higher bills will earn more capital credits than a member with lower electric bills.

Since 1989, AEC has returned over $7.5 million dollars to its members. This year AEC is returning $500,000 to its present and former members for capital credits earned through 2009. This retirement will represent any remaining balance from 1992 and a percentage of capital credits earned from 1993 through 2009. Amounts under $10 will be applied directly to the member’s electric energy account and will show as a credit item on the August billing.

Look for your check the first part of August and experience the cooperative difference.
